Arc de Triomphe
Designed in the early 1800s and one of the most famous monuments in Paris, the Arc de Triomphe stands in the center of the Place de l'Etoile at the western end of the Champs Elysees. The triumphal arch is a tribute to those who fought for France during the Napoleonic Wars.
The Arc de Triomphe is the second largest triumphal arch in existence and is part of a famous sequence of monuments and grand thoroughfares on a route that goes from the courtyard of the Louvre Palace to the outskirts of Paris.
